Height: 70-100’
Spread: 50-80’

Shape: Somewhat pyramidal to oval in youth becoming broad-crowned with age. Can be irregular and shrubby
Foliage: Deciduous, alternate, simple, 4"-10" long, obviate, base wedge-shaped, leaf shaped like a fiddle. There are 2-3 rounded lobes on upper half of leaf and 5-7 additional lobes on lower half of leaf. Yellow-brown blotchy fall color
Fall Color: Not showy
Hardiness: Zones 2-8

Comments: HANDSOME LARGE SHADE TREE that is best suited to Open Space Lawn Areas. Golf ball-sized acorns. Bur Oak is a majestic tree of the tall grass prairie that once covered central North America. It grows best in deep limestone soils of riverbanks and valleys but it will adapt to many different environments. It is fast growing, long-lived and casts deep shade. Bur oak is noted for its very large leaves and acorns: the leaves are from one-half to one foot long, and acorns can be as large as 2 inches long and wide, enclosed in a cup with fringe on the edge
